Nov 10, 2021 · The Black-directed movie will discuss the horrifying background of Lake Lanier and how the lake came to be through flooding a lively farm town. Oscarbille had many Black farmers, and roughly 1,000 of them left the city to escape racism and the violence that surrounded discrimination in the early 1900s. The film is slated to be released in 2022. The lake wasn’t filled until the 1950’s so it was a view decades after the racist events of Oscarville. People kind of conflate the two but I don’t know how related they actually were. Oscarville would have been abandoned by the time the lake was filled. And Lake Lanier is huge and across several counties, Oscarville was a small little town.
